Why, When, and How to Apply a Ceramic Coating

Every car enthusiast dreams of having their vehicle sleek and shiny, looking like the day it rolled off the assembly line. While regular waxing can provide temporary luster, ceramic coatings are the gold standard of protective shine.

In this blog post, we will explore why you should consider using a ceramic coating, the optimal time for application, and the step-by-step process for achieving that flawless, long-lasting gloss.

Why should you apply a ceramic coating?

Any product application requires time and effort. What makes a ceramic coating worth the hassle? It offers the following benefits:

Unparalleled Protection

Ceramic coatings use advanced nanotechnology to provide a much more durable protective layer than traditional waxes or sealants. This shield guards your vehicle's paintwork against UV rays, oxidation, chemical stains, bird droppings, and other environmental contaminants. The hydrophobic properties in ceramics also cause water to bead up and roll off, reducing the risk of water spots and making maintenance a breeze.

Longevity

Unlike waxes that wear off after a few months, ceramic coatings offer extended protection. When applied correctly and maintained appropriately, they can last for several years. This longevity saves you time and money on reapplication.

Enhanced Appearance

Ceramic coatings create a deep, reflective gloss that intensifies the paint's color and gives your vehicle a showroom-like finish. The coating's smoothness makes cleaning easier, reducing the chances of swirl marks and fine scratches caused by improper washing techniques.

When should you apply a ceramic coating?

Once you decide to apply a ceramic coating, you may wonder when you should do so. While ceramic coatings can enhance your car’s appearance anytime, these guidelines can help.

Keep your brand-new vehicle pristine!

Apply a ceramic coating as soon as you acquire a new vehicle for optimal results. By doing so, you protect the pristine factory paintwork, preserving its beauty and value.

Maintain your investment!

A ceramic coating is a worthwhile investment if you plan to keep your vehicle for an extended period. It will ensure your finish remains protected and visually appealing for years, maintaining your car’s resale value and reducing the need for frequent detailing.

Restoring a vintage ride?

Ceramic coatings can breathe new life into older vehicles by rejuvenating their appearance. If your vehicle’s paint has faded or lost its luster, a ceramic coating can revive the color and provide a protective layer that combats further deterioration.

How to Apply Ceramic Coating

The final question: How exactly do you apply a ceramic coating? If you’re looking for a professional grade application, taking your car to a trained professional may be worth the cost. That said, ceramic technology is more accessible than ever, and products are relatively easy to apply.

Here’s to apply a ceramic coating if you’re using Stoner Car Care’s Hybrid Ceramic Quick Detailer or a similar spray application product:

Step 1: Thoroughly wash and dry your vehicle if you haven’t done so already

Ensure that the vehicle is clean and dry before starting the application. Ideally, you want to work with a cool, clean surface without direct sunlight. A thoroughly clean and dry exterior ensures optimal bonding.

Step 2: Spray ceramic quick detailer on a body panel

Once the surface is clean, choose a body panel and spray on the ceramic quick detailer. We recommend using only two to three sprays per panel. Remember: You need to buff off whatever you put on, so less product on means less work during application.

Step 3: Lightly buff with a microfiber towel

After spraying the ceramic quick detailer on a body panel, take a clean microfiber towel and lightly buff the surface. Use gentle, circular motions to work the detailer into the paint until it appears dry and no longer leaves any residue or streaks behind. This buffing action helps to evenly distribute the product and enhance its effectiveness.

Step 4: Allow time for bonding

Once you have finished buffing the ceramic quick detailer onto the body panel, allow it some time to bond with the surface. This bonding process is essential for creating a durable and long-lasting protective layer on your vehicle's paint.

While the detailer is bonding on a finished panel, you can proceed to the next portion of your vehicle and repeat the process. Working on one panel at a time ensures that each section receives the necessary attention and bonding time for optimal results.

We recommend allowing the vehicle additional time to cure in clear, dry weather. Avoid driving in the rain for a day or so if possible.

Use ceramic technology to your benefit!

Now you know all the benefits of using ceramic technology on your car. Whether applied at home in your driveway or at a professional shop, ceramic products keep your vehicle looking pristine longer. Enjoy the shine, and enjoy the ride!
